Where we’re from, who we are, and a little bit about The Hamptons Vegan
Where we live affects our choices with the local foods we eat. We want to tell you a little bit about The Hamptons Vegan.
We lived in the Hamptons for over twenty-eight years. The area’s beauty and quirks inspired us. Its ebb and flow were captivating. The restaurants and shops added charm. Locally grown food played a role. All these elements contributed to creating The Hamptons Vegan. This is where our vegan journey began.
Who we are
Hi there! I’m Julie.
I was vegetarian for thirty-seven years and now vegan for thirteen years. It’s easier now than it was back then! I’m the recipe and blog writer for our site.
I was a flight attendant until I married Don, a.k.a. The Big Guy. I then concentrated on raising our four (now adult) children. My interests include travel, the beach, writing, and sewing. I also enjoy spoiling our two formerly feral cats, Mini and Tigi. Our first grandchild, Azalea, was born five years ago. We’re SO in love with her. We also have granddogs: Jack and Percy and grandcats: Luchadora, Cuddles and Pumpkin.
I ran a vegan cookie and pastry business, (Ma’s Cookie Cartel), from 2017 to 2019. Alecia helped with marketing and sales. My son Zack created the package design and photography. My husband Don, son Bryan, and daughter, Chelsea, assisted me with selling and moral support. It was located here in the Hamptons and it was a lot of fun. We met some great people, too. Donating 10% of our profits to local animal non-profits was the cherry on top.

Finding and creating new recipes! I am excited to share our recipes and offer cruelty-free alternatives for transitioning to a vegan lifestyle.
Meet Alecia.
The Hamptons Vegan would not exist without the other half of the team, my oldest daughter, Alecia. And she’s been vegan for thirteen years, too! My daughter is the meet-and-greet representative of our team. She had the insight to dream and create The Hamptons Vegan name, idea, and concept.
Alecia’s lived in many parts of the country. She grew up in the Hamptons. She lived in upstate NY, and the states of Virginia, Washington, and New Jersey as well. You can take the girl out of the Hamptons but you can’t take the Hamptons out of this girl! She loves the ocean and values nature and the beauty it provides around her wherever she lives.
She’s focused on landscape gardening with vegan and organic applications. She continues to stay current by learning and using the best ecological practices. You can find her at Farmer’s Markets where she supplies the local area with the finest microgreens. Check out her business at GrewsomeGreensLLC.
Additionally, she advocates for animal rights in all forms and loves experiencing vegan restaurants wherever she goes.
Alecia’s primary #1 focus is her (vegan) daughter, Azalea! And they recently brought a sweet street cat into their home. His name is Pumpkin.

Recipes, vegan activities, fund-raisers, and events all contributed to the creation of The Hamptons Vegan. Reporting on all things that promote a vegan lifestyle is now our mission. We hope The Hamptons Vegan community will grow and evolve with us. We’re embracing compassionate, cruelty-free choices for everyone, everywhere.
